Stars sparkle at the ASTRAS

It may not have the reputation of the Logies, but the pay TV equivalent is just as glamorous and the party well and truly kicked off on the red carpet.

Anthony Callea waltzed with Nikki Webster, and Gyton Grantly sang his school war cry at the top of his lungs as the best of the subscription television world strolled the red carpet for the 2010 Annual ASTRA Awards on Thursday.

The awards ceremony, now in its 8th year, recognises excellence in subscription TV and Sydney's State Theatre saw its fair share of frocked up celebrities getting up to their usual red carpet antics.

Sarah Murdoch took to the carpet in a stunning Grecian, blush-coloured Bianca Spender gown, her first public event since giving birth to her third baby 10 weeks ago.

Even though Murdoch looked amazing, she begged the photographers to shoot her above the belly as she laughed about her post-baby body.

'I feel good considering I just had a baby, but I'm trying to embrace the curves,' she told AAP.

'It's exciting to be out actually, it's a bit of a night for me, so it's nice.'

Murdoch said she doesn't get a lot of time to herself with the new baby, but admitted she indulged in an aromatherapy facial and had the ultimate chill-out day to prepare for the event.

Aussie fashion designer Alex Perry and model Charlotte Dawson from Australia's Top Model made fun of the fact Dawson wasn't nominated this year.

'I can't think of another personality I'd rather see take the top prize than Sarah Murdoch except Charlotte, but she's not even nominated,' laughed Perry.

'She's been nominated three times in a row, you know what they say, three times a bridesmaid, never the bride.'

'Well, that's also been the case,' added Dawson.

Meanwhile Perry was boasting about being Botox-free at the event.

'I'm three months out on Botox and I can even move my eyebrow ... if I try really hard,' he giggled.

MTV's Ruby Rose wore a Lady Gaga meets Madonna corset leotard, which was perfect attire for her DJing gig at the after party at exclusive nightspot Ivy.

A DECADE after his film The Wog Boy became one of the most successful Australian films of all time, Nick Giannopoulos and his co-stars held the world premiere of the sequel, The Kings of Mykonos: Wog Boy 2 in South Yarra last night.

Giannopoulos, who wrote, produced and starred in the original film, teamed up with writer Chris Anastassiades and co-star Vince Colosimo, for the sequel, filmed mostly in - of course - Mykonos, with Yarraville playing a minor role for the film's opening scenes.

In Wog Boy 2, Steve Karamitsis (Giannopoulos) and his mate Frank (Colosimo) head to the Greek island of Mykonos when Steve inherits a beach worth millions from an uncle he has never met.

The film's crew spent an enviable six weeks filming in Greece - which must have been tough going?

''It was great fun,'' says Giannopoulos. ''We loved every minute of it. And it was great to be back with the boys.''

The film, which stars Greek A-list model and actress Zeta Makrypoulia, is also set to open in Greece (where its title will be truncated to just The Kings of Mykonos) early next month. The original film already has a following there, says Giannopoulos.

''Greek audiences know the wog boys - it was released there in cinemas and on TV and DVD.''

Joining the film's stars for last night's premiere were a mix of local film, TV and sports stars, including Daniel McPherson, Buddy Franklin, Red Symons, Anthony Callea,Tim Campbell, Michael and Lindy Klim, Molly Meldrum, Zoe Badwi, Naomi Robson, Helen Kapalos, Anne Maree Cooksley and Nick Bracks. Giannopoulos hopes his sequel will be as successful as the original, which grossed $13.4 million at the box office, but perhaps Wog Boy 2 could also help promote tourism to the financially-stricken Greece? ''Maybe - Mykonos is a beautiful place,'' Giannopoulos says.
