New Years Resolutions Update

Hi Guys, Just checking in to see how everyone's New Years Resolutions are going that we all made this year? I remember when I wrote on the New Years Resolution Thread and I said "We should check in with each other half way through the year to see how we are all going". At the time I thought that is so far away I will probably forget all about it and Wow here we are half way through the year. How fast has the year gone?? Well I'm happy to say my New Years Resolution is going pretty good so far I wanted to lose some weight and since January I'm happy to say I have lost 8.5 kilos. I still have along way to go but at least thats a start. I can't wait to read how everyone else's New Years Resolutions are going. Thanks Love Vic xx

Lennox Heads Residents Clean Up After Terror Tornado

Lennox Heads Residents Clean Up After Terror Tornado

by Greg Stolz From: The Courier-Mail June 03, 2010 8:22PM

http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensl...f-1225875215033

IT ROARED in from the ocean, a swirling funnel of fury. And in less than 60 seconds, large parts of Lennox Head were gone - wiped out by a freak force of nature rarely seen in Australia.
Residents and tourists cowered in terror as homes and caravans exploded around them when a tornado tore through the picturesque northern NSW coastal town south of Byron Bay just before 7.30am.

They told of the twister, like something from from a Hollywood movie, roaring "like a train" as it demolished homes, flipped and smashed caravans, snapped large trees and sent deadly debris, including steel girders and street signs, flying through the air.

Among the terrified locals was Monique Buzzolan, whose first instinct was to cradle her "miracle baby" Liliana, the child she had to her late fiance Jesse, who died last year in a car crash.

With her in-laws' house falling in around her, Ms Buzzolan, 27, was thrown to the floor and speared with shards of glass as she protected her daughter.

"The glass door just exploded in my back," she said. "I got up to try to get to the stairs and then the front doors blew open. At some stage, I looked up and saw the roof lifting off."

Ms Buzzolan used her mobile phone to call an ambulance before sheltering in a neighbour's basement.

"It ripped through in a matter of seconds. It hit before we knew it and then it was gone."

A shaken Ms Buzzolan, who was treated at Ballina Hospital with her daughter, told tearfully how her partner had been killed in a car crash last year.

"Liliana's her miracle baby, she didn't even know she was pregnant to my son Jesse," her mother-in-law Sue Kelly revealed as she surveyed her modern Stewart St home, one of the worst hit by the tornado.

Ironically, an old fibro and corrugated shed next door was untouched.

Retiree Graham Ellis, 73, who lives on the Lennox Head beachfront with his wife Pam, was watching television when the twister smashed into his Pacific Parade house.

"I heard the roar but before I could get out, I heard the (debris) missiles hitting the house . . . that's when I knew it was on," he said.

"I said to the wife 'just stay here, don't move until it's over'. It was absolutely horrifying."

When Mr Ellis dared to look outside, he saw his pride-and-joy caravan flipped on its side, destroyed.

"I've lived here for 26 years and I've never experienced anything like this," he said. "It was absolutely a twister."

Melbourne holidaymakers Ida German and Allan Farber were spending only their second morning in Lennox Head, in a beachfront home owned by friends, when "all hell broke loose".

"There was an almighty crash, the windows blew in downstairs and the wall behind us cracked and opened up," Mr Farber recalled. "I could hear glass and everything shattering and came upstairs to see utter destruction."

The top floor of the two-storey house had been demolished. A boat parked at the side was speared through a fence about 50m away.

There were unconfirmed reports of looting in the caravan park and police sealed off the area.

State Emergency Service area controller Scott Hanckel said it was a miracle no one was killed or seriously injured.

"If you look at the damage, you've got to wonder how people can be so lucky," he said.

Mr Hanckel said about 30 homes had been damaged, many irreparably, and there had been more than 80 calls for help from affected residents. Powerlines were brought down all over town.

"A number of houses are probably write-offs," he said.

About 80 people had visited an emergency evacuation centre at Lennox Head Bowls Club. SES crews are expected to remain in the town for days.
.........................................................................
I contacted Kerri (mucha) earlier and hoping she, her loved ones and property are all safe and well. If there are other forumers living in the area, I hope they are safe and well too. It was reported on an evening bulletin that the tornado reached as far north as Byron Bay.

Australian's At Their Finest Moments

Just finished sipping a glass of white Australian Wine, from the Thomas Clarke Vineyards and watching on TV , Washington Week" on PBS. Sort of multitasking while the Bamboora Australian Vodka is chilling down in the glass with lime slices and Tonic Water (the Quinine there keeps me from getting Malaria. An Olde British way of 'Taking your Medicine?')

Be that as it may, I hear and see this story about a young 16 year old Lady from Sydney, who just sailed around the world, SOLO and recently made it back to Sydney Harbor again. Quite the accomplishment. Now some sort of group now longer wants to make it "official" for the extraordinary event. Largely I guess (am just guessing here) they took this category off of their list? Her name is Jessica Watson.

Reminds me of the story of Kontiki. or perhaps any others that have prevailed against all odds to achieve while still quite young. Was there not a recent story of a 13 year old boy that scaled Mr. Everest, Jordan Romero? And several other of a continent's highest mountain peaks?

Of course there may and are many more young people who do amazing feats with their natural talents and abilities in any country. Recently of course Anthony is now working with the youth of Australia for the next generation of Artists in Music. Any society needs its Minstrels to keep us entertained and to sort out for us "Life's Questions." One only needs to compare Anthony Callea's 1st and 2nd Albums for that. There are certainly many more.

So here is our chance to tell us about them, the heroics, the events, the fortitudes, the "I have Dreams" and it could be something like that 19 year student I once knew some 10 or more years ago, wanting to bake a Birthday cake. We were at 10,400 ft in the "Wilds of Colorado" living in cabins on the side of a mountain. Her mother threw here out of the kitchen because she kept burning the toast. (sound familiar) But with an old copy circa 1958 Cookbook and basic arithmetic we were able to change a recipe from the "Good House Keeping Cookbook" and have here made a two tiered 3 layered chocolate cake to perfection. The candles were lit the sings were sung and the party began.

So I am certain by these examples the Members of this Forum have many stories to tell to inspire us world-wide.

Thanks and keep listening to the Youth, because they have their Wisdom's.
