It's A Celebrity Cook Off! Anthony Callea Goes Head To Head With Axle Whitehead In The Kitchen
POSTED: 09 Aug 2005

Pop powerhouse Anthony Callea is going to be a tough culinary opponent to beat when he goes head to head with Video Hits host Axle Whitehead for a special upcoming celebrity episode of Channel Ten's 'Ready, Steady, Cook'.

The well-known twosome are set to get their sous-chef hats on and whip up a storm on the popular daily cooking show, battling it out for a $10,000 donation to their favourite charity.

Hosted by Nick Stratford, 'Ready, Steady, Cook' features two teams, each consisting of one of Australia's best chefs and their 'guest' sous-chef, who have 20 minutes to make as many tasty dishes as possible from a bag of mystery ingredients, selected by the sous-chef. The winner of the best menu is then voted for by the studio audience.

With two of our favourite music men flexing their foodie prowess (or lack of it), this promises to be one hilarious kitchen show-down not to be missed - make sure you tune into Channel Ten at the special time of 7pm on Friday, August 26 to catch all the mayhem!

Go Behind The Sizzling Scenes At Anthony's Hurts So Bad Video Shoot
POSTED: 12 Aug 2005

Back with a bang with the third superb Top 10 single from his self-titled album, Anthony Callea's video clip for 'Hurts So Bad' is by far the hottest we've seen from the pop star yet...

Anthony once again hooked up with renowned director Anthony Rose (who shot his video clips for 'Rain' and 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' as well as clips for Delta Goodrem, Shannon Noll, Casey Donovan and more) to film the new clip. And while you might be thinking it was shot in Cuba, thanks in part to plenty of foxy femme's and spunky boys dancing in the street in the dead of a steamy summer night, you'll be shocked to hear the gritty location for the shoot was amazingly Auckland, New Zealand!!

But enough talk... see what all the fuss is about and check out this cool video of all the sizzling behind the scenes action of the 'Hurts So Bad' clip NOW:

Anthony Callea Is Europe Bound + Finds A New Fan In Pavarotti!
POSTED: 08 Nov 2005

It's true. Anthony Callea is leaving the country - but only for a short time! Anthony will be heading off to the UK and Sweden on a songwriting trip to prepare for the follow-up to his smash self-titled debut album, and will be working with some of the best writers in the business, including Gary Barlow, Quiz & Larossi ('Rain'), Jorgen Elofsson, John Reid, Ben Robbins and Steve Balsamo ('Per Sempre').

While over in that neck of the woods, Anthony might even have time to catch up with a new fan - the one and only Pavarotti. Anthony performed his ARIA award-winning #1 single 'The Prayer' at a function following Pavarotti's Perth concert, and thoroughly impressed the opera sensation.

"I'm proud and honoured to be here," Anthony told New Idea after his performance. "I absolutely appreciate what he does, but I don't think this will really sink in for a few days. My grandfather is a huge fan of Pavarotti's, so I grew up knowing who he is and listening to his music.

"The funny thing is that I haven't told him I'm here performing for Pavarotti tonight, because I haven't been home for two or three weeks!"

As for the first meeting of the two great voices, all went swimmingly.

"He was really nice and asked me how old I was and if I'd mind him introducing me to Italy," Anthony told New Idea.

"It's been a great experience for me and now I'm looking forward to my trip to Europe where I plan on writing some new songs over the next month."

Anthony Gets Into The Xmas Spirit + Lends The Salvos A Hand On Annual Charity Album
POSTED: 14 Nov 2005

The 12th 'The Spirit of Christmas' CD is in stores NOW and with the talents of executive producers Lindsay Field and Glenn Wheatley back on board, the list of artists who have provided their time and musical skills to create a festive blend of classic and original songs is as impressive as ever.

Anthony Callea's fans also have an extra good reason to go out and get this CD quick. Making his very first appearance on the annual album, Anthony delivers a beautiful rendition of 'The Christmas Song' - one the most famous songs of the festive season the world over, originally sung by the incredible Nat King Cole.

Since the first The Spirit of Christmas CD hit the stores 11 years ago, this Myer initiative has raised over $5.2million - thanks to the support of national management, staff and hundreds of thousands of Australians who clearly love celebrating Christmas with great music and the knowledge that their purchase will help make someone else's Christmas happier.

As part of a three-year commitment, this year's profits from the proceeds will again be distributed through the Salvation Army's Red Shield Appeal to support at-risk children and youth throughout Australia.

Each year, the Salvation Army helps more than 1 million Australians in need and at Christmas time - more than any other time - the emphasis on family can mean that loneliness and financial desperation is even more of an issue.

Managing director of Myer Dawn Robertson says, "The Spirit of Christmas CD has been a long tradition at Myer. We take great pride knowing our work supports the Salvation Army by providing young people with much needed services."

Salvation Army spokesman John Dalziel says, "The Salvation Army loves the involvement with the Myer CD, not only because of the incredibly generous donation that enables us to care for so many people at Christmas time with food, toys and shelter, but also because 'The Spirit of Christmas CD' helps so many people celebrate the true meaning of Christmas which is the reason we are involved with caring for some people, especially at this time of the year."

The Spirit Of Christmas 2005 CD ($23.95) is in MYER stores now. All profits from the sale of the CD go to the Salvation Army.

The Spirit Of Christmas 2005 Tracklisting:

1. John Farnham - One Little Christmas Tree 2. Human Nature - Frosty The Snowman
3. Adam Harvey - Jingle Bell Rock
4. Vika & Linda Bull - Away In A Manger
5. Marcia Hines - Reach Out And Touch
6. Tina Arena - White Christmas
7. Daddy Cool - The Christmas Bug
8. Anthony Callea - The Christmas Song
9. Gary Pinto - Mary's Boy Child/Christmas
10. David Hobson - The Holy City
11. Kate Alexa - All I Want For Christmas Is You
12. Christine Anu - Christmas In Australia
13. Axle Whitehead - Silent Night
14. Jimmy Barnes - What A Wonderful World

Anthony Checks In From Chilly Norway On Songwriting Trip
POSTED: 07 Dec 2005

While we're lapping up the sunshine here, Anthony Callea is battling snow, ice and freezing cold temperatures over in Norway!

Hitting the UK, Europe and Scandinavia to write songs for follow-up album to his #1 self-titled debut, Anthony has told his official forum at www.anthonycallea.com.au that he's really excited with the first song that was written.

After squeezing in some quick sightseeing at hotspots like Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and Trafalgar Square while in London, Anthony headed for Stockholm, where he started songwriting with Quiz & Larossi - the guys behind his hit single 'Rain' - and John Reid (who has written for some of the biggest names in the business, including Tina Arena), getting "some very cool tunes" in the bag.

Following his time in Sweden, Anthony hit Oslo - the coldest place yet on his trip! His jet-setting is now about to take him back to London to do some more writing before he shoots off to Milan, Italy, where he'll be spending his birthday.

Anthony will be back on Australia in a couple of weeks to perform at the Melbourne Christmas Carols at the Myer Music Bowl on December 24 - more details coming soon.

Check out the gallery section on www.anthonycallea.com.au to see some exclusive candid snaps from Anthony has sent us from his trip!
